THE JOYS EXPERIENCE

THE JOYS EXPERIENCE

THE EXHIBITION

On the occasion of the great International kermesse of the Formula 1 Gran Premio d’Italia 2014, Maurizio Caldirola Arte Contemporanea Gallery presents “The Joys Experience” to celebrate urban art through a unique and innovative event in Monza.

The Art Gallery Maurizio Caldirola Arte Contemporanea will open a special exhibition featuring Italian spray-can artist and sculptor Joys who was commissioned by the Gallery, under the patronage of the Municipality of Monza, to decorate an entire building in the historic center of the city.

The opening will take place on Thursday, September 4, at 7 p.m. at the temporary location of the Gallery on the corner between Via Pennati and Via Mauri, Monza.

The surface of the building will become the scenery where the chromatic study and the technical execution of the artist will come alive as the most impressive art project ever made in Monza. An opportunity to talk about a city and to open up new perspectives.

Joys will develop an original lettering to achieve a spectacular effect which allow you to see the work through the window openings giving the viewer the impression that the entire texture lives inside the structure. Some sculptures and wall installations made by the artist will also be on view inside the building until Sunday,September 7.

The artist

Born in 1974 in Padova, Italy, Joys begins his artistic career in the early nineties as a “writer” (spray-can artist). As the great masters of the first American school, his graffiti turns into a search on the lettering, first as an expressive need then as a technical and evolutionary necessity. Joys gradually enhances his work by going beyond the two-dimensional writing with depth and materiality, and acquiring a plasticity able to conquer unexplored spaces where neither writers nor painters work: windows, blinds, profiles and unconventional structures. His art becomes so unique and easily identifiable all over the world. Hanging in the balance between underground and institutional, the path and the growth of Joys are recognized by insiders of the art system as unreleased, exclusive and refined. Through layers and standards more and more sophisticated and personalized, the art of Joys builds impossible mazes where lines and shapes respect meticulous geometric and logical rules. Sculpture becomes a natural evolution of his work and the three-dimensionality of materials always reproduces the unique style of the artist which has been distinguishing him for over 20 years inside and outside of the museums, from Monaco to New York, from Moscow to Paris.
